No phone, no tv, no husband in the house. Silence (achieved only after standing guard outside Rufus’ room to prevent him running in to tell Billy a story or some such mission).
This evening has mainly been spent wrapped up in a richly descriptive, other-worldly book that has gradually swept me in to it’s complex, often comical thread of characters. Delhi, in various guises, is being brought to life by Arundhati Roy and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. It’s surreal. But beautiful and moving.
I wasn’t sure after the first chunk of 90 pages, but I’m glad I persevered because I’m now hooked in and relishing the ride.
That’s all I’ll say for now. It’s long, so only pick it up if you’re prepared to commit…but so far I think it’s worth it!
(warning: the book does contain occasional swear words)
